Try Art as a Self-care resource
For me art is vehicle that carries my thoughts from the unconscious to
a conscious level, only revealing the message when the picture is
complete. Lynda McLeod
The Benefits of Art

-
Causes psychological relaxation
- Increase serotonium levels
-
Meditation like effect causes calm
-
It provides a window to feelings & thoughts that are not accessible through language.
We believe that many nurses participate in a creative process that
allows them to transcend their professional stress and helps them to
make meaning of the experiences they encounter as healers.
We believe that self-care is part of leadership and the responsibility of all Registered Nurses.
There is a reason why airline hostesses instruct people to put on their
own oxygen masks first before helping others in emergency situations.
In nursing, we need to have strategies in place that are akin to giving
ourselves oxygen first. Having the privilege of caring for people in
extreme grief and loss, suffering and death can be transformational, or
emotionally draining, depending on how one processes these experiences.
If these experiences are perceived as traumatic events that sometimes
happen repeatedly, compounding the effects of the initial impact, the
nurse’s health is at risk.
In order for nurses to maintain balance and meaning in their lives,
nurses need time and a reflective process in place to unravel these
experiences.
If you do not have a process in place, we encourage you to apply for $ from the Art fund and try art as one of many self-care strategy
